solutions that elevate your environment
ECO Strategy (formerly Environmental Communication Options) was founded in 1997 by Don Huff to assist Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (ENGO’S) with issue-based campaigns and media relations. His many years working for ENGO’s (including the Sierra Club, Federation of Ontario Naturalists, and Environmental Defence), and as a political staffer, gave him a unique understanding of the challenges of communicating important ideas on tight budgets. Don’s vision was to provide high level strategic and communications advice, campaign support and media relations to “level the playing field” for organizations that were competing for public opinion with government and private sector interests with much deeper pockets.
Over time, ECO Strategy’s client base and expertise widened to provide strategic counsel, campaign and communications support to assist trade associations, and government and private sector companies to meet the challenges of climate change. ECO Strategy has been at the forefront of energy efficiency and conservation programming, delivering advice, communication campaigns and project, and training for over a decade. In addition, ECO Strategy has provided ongoing advice and support to the Environmental Commissioner(s) of Ontario since 2006.
ECO Strategy has also worked extensively with First Nations to identify opportunities and help communities develop energy plans and policies that address climate change.
Clients engage ECO Strategy in response to an enviable record of success in delivering focused, cost effective campaigns, often centred on outreach efforts in ethnic, First Nation, rural and northern communities.
These campaigns are informed by significant experience with the design, promotion and delivery of persuasive messages to promote client objectives. Each targeted campaign is backed up by focused delivery through deployment of appropriate tactics including social media, multi-ethnic approaches, and earned media.
In keeping with ECO Strategy’s commitment to excellence in communicating in urban, rural, remote and areas, in addition to its Toronto office, ECO Strategy has reciprocal office arrangements in Ottawa, Goderich, Kenora, North Bay, Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Hastings County.
We work with clients to develop the most effective solutions for using our specific expertise and knowledge. We do this on a project basis and in an on-going relation.
We help our clients take the most effective arguments to the right people in government.
We advocate for your issues through all aspects of a public relations campaign, from earned and social media, to mass market and direct contact.
ECO Strategy offers a range of services to help our clients reach their objectives through traditional and social media in a timely and targeted manner.
ECO Strategy has a singular focus: we work with clients who are devoted to preserving and improving our environment. Our staff consists of people who are passionate about the environment and bring a strong mix of campaign experience, communication skills, social media, and subject matter expertise; and we know Ontario. We have lived and worked across the province, and have maintained community and media contacts in small and large communities. We are as comfortable communicating with rural and Northern Ontarians as with residents in multi-ethnic urban environments, and we understand how people receive and synthesize information where they live.
Our small office allows us to be nimble, and to deliver what our clients need when they need it. We maintain the flexibility to scale up for big projects with a stable of trusted suppliers, and scale back down as the situation warrants.
Our experience, from a technical and strategic outreach perspective, is uniquely suited to drive results. We have a proven track record of delivering and implementing communication plans that promote and deliver our clients’ brand and enhance their reputation.
Furthermore, we know strategy and understand the importance of research, persuasive communication and the need to deliver programs accurately, efficiently and cost-effectively.
